New Skuru Bridge, Sweden (2012)

For a competition for a new Skuru Bridge that should be built close to the old three spans arch structure a new type of the Melan Arch has been developed. The proposed bridge of the total length of 392 m is formed by a one span arch structure that supports a continuous girder of a variable depth forming the bridge deck. The new arch structure has a bold span of length of 186.50 m and it is designed without spandrel walls. Both directions of the motorway are carried by one structure of the width of 31.5 m formed by a narrow spine girder with large overhangs supporting the concrete deck slab. Above the arch crown the steel spine girder transfers into a steel box stiffening the concrete arch.

In the results published by Swedish Transport Administration the SHP entry was published as a second design.
